The Government has ordered an investigation into the death of a supervising engineer who was fatally crushed by a truck while working on the Montego Bay Perimeter Road project in St James.
The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Clifton Archibald James, who was working at the construction site near Granville on Thursday, September 3.
Preliminary reports indicate that James was taking measurements at approximately 10 a.m. when he was struck by a white 2023 FAW truck that was reportedly reversing at the site.
James sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead following the incident.
The police have classified the matter as a fatal traffic accident and are conducting investigations. Statements are being collected, while an accident reconstruction officer is expected to assist with determining the circumstances surrounding the crash. The findings are expected to be submitted to the coroner.
Works Minister Robert Morgan has ordered a full probe into the incident and said the contractor, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), is expected to cooperate fully with the authorities.
The National Road Operating and Constructing Company (NROCC) has also acknowledged the fatality, saying the incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
The investigation is continuing.
