A GoFundMe campaign launched six days ago to raise funds for the long-term care of gospel dancehall artiste Lieutenant Stitchie, real name Cleve Laing, has garnered significant support, raising over US$13,000 of its US$100,000 target. So far, the campaign has received 303 donations as fans and well-wishers rally to aid the artist’s recovery.
The fundraiser was organized by Lt Stitchie’s wife, Sophia Laing, who revealed that the veteran entertainer suffered a severe brain hemorrhage, leaving him unresponsive. The funds will be used to transfer him to a long-term care facility, where he can receive the necessary rehabilitative treatment.
In her heartfelt plea, Mrs. Laing expressed gratitude for the support the family has already received, emphasizing how essential these donations are in covering medical and living expenses. “Your donation will make a difference by bringing hope to Lt Stitchie and his family during this difficult time. Your generosity and prayers mean the world to us,” she said.
The artist, who began his recording career in 1983, became a household name in 1987 with the release of his album *Wear yuh Size*, featuring the hit song of the same name. He went on to record multiple albums for Atlantic Records and became a prominent figure in both the dancehall and gospel dancehall scenes.
Mrs. Laing has encouraged those contributing to the campaign to share it widely, emphasizing the importance of community support in helping the family through this challenging period.
As the campaign continues, the family remains hopeful that more contributions will come in to reach their goal, ensuring Lt Stitchie gets the long-term care he desperately needs.
