A former Member of Parliament has been granted bail in the sum of $300,000 after appearing before the court in Westmoreland on charges of incest involving his teenage daughter.
The court ordered that the accused report to the Frome Police Station every Saturday and have no contact with the complainant. No travel restrictions were imposed.
The former lawmaker, who represented the People’s National Party, was taken into custody earlier this week following his arrest on Monday.
Authorities have withheld his identity to protect the minor involved in the case.
According to reports, the alleged incident took place on January 23 while the man was assisting the child with a passport application. It is alleged that during the process, he took her to verify photographs before later bringing her to his home, where the incident reportedly occurred.
Law enforcement officers subsequently conducted an operation at the accused’s residence, leading to his arrest.
The matter remains under investigation.
