Latest Jamaica News, St Thomas (McKoy’s News): Former JLP Councillor Remanded Following Sex Allegations – Former Jamaica Labour Party Councillor Devrell Dwyer, who is accused of having sexual intercourse with an underage girl, was remanded after appearing in St. Thomas Parish Court on Tuesday, February 4.
Dwyer, 66, was arrested by cops last week after he returned to Jamaica at the airport from the United States.
According to reports, in 2017, then 15-year-old girl reported the matter to the police that Dwyer and a policeman had been raping her in separate incidents.
They both men left the island shortly after the report was made to the police before a manhunt was launched for them.
An application for bail was made for Dwyer by Attorney-At-Law, Hensley Williams, who the told Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell that his client was not a flight risk.
“Dwyer returned to the island knowing the consequences and that he came home to die.” said Williams.
A doctor was called to court by the lawyer to tell the judge about Dwyer’s medical condition before he reportedly concluded that Dwyer would be at risk if he remanded in custody based on his ailments and the conditions in jail.
The case was adjourned by the judge until February 13, for the prosecution to reply to the bail application.
The complainant was pregnant and the court ordered a DNA test to determine the father of the child.
Williams stated that Dwyer is willing to do the DNA test.
