Manchester, Jamaica — A forensic analyst report has revealed that there was no gunshot residue on the hands of Manchester businessman Jason Neil, challenging initial conclusions that he died by suicide.
Neil was found with a gunshot wound to the head on December 4, 2018, in the bathroom of his home. His pregnant wife reportedly discovered him sometime after 7:00 a.m. after hearing an explosion. His licensed firearm was found beside him, and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Initial reports had suggested suicide, and a coroner’s inquest found that Neil suffered a perforating gunshot wound to the right temple, with a muzzle imprint around the entrance wound and gunpowder residue in the wound tract.
However, the latest forensic findings could shift the direction of the case, which has been under scrutiny for nearly seven years. Attorney KD Knight, King’s Counsel, who represents Neil’s family, provided the update following a hearing in the Manchester Parish Court on Thursday.
The matter is set to resume on March 27, when summation is expected to begin.
