CORAL SPRINGS, Florida — Police have launched a murder investigation following the shooting death of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen at her home on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old was found unresponsive during a welfare check, and authorities later confirmed she had been fatally shot. The incident is being treated as a case of domestic violence.
Her husband, Stephen Bowen, who is of Jamaican origin, has been taken into custody and charged with murder. Investigators say the shooting occurred inside the couple’s residence, and no other suspects are being sought.
Metayer Bowen served as Vice Mayor of Coral Springs and was also vice chair of the Florida Democratic Party. She was widely regarded as a dedicated public servant.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
