Five Persons Arrested during Ammunition Seizure in St James

Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Five Persons Arrested During Ammunition Seizure: Five persons have been detained in Granville during an operation in Granville, St James and several rounds of ammunition used in a particular assault rifle also seized on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports are that on Tuesday afternoon, a joint military team carried out an operation in the State of Emergency in Brown’s Lane, Granville. During the operation, several houses were searched and the ammunition,  49 live 7.62 rounds were discovered in a white powdery substance, in a tin container underneath the structure of one of the dwellings.

Major Basil Jarrett, Civil Military Corporation and Media Affair Officer for the Jamaica Constabulary Force stated that these particular rounds are ones which are used in a particular firearm known as the Kalashnikov Assault rifle. According to Major Jarrett, this particular rifle has been featured in several murders and shootings which have taken place in the parish of St James.

Our news team was also told that this latest seizure has now taken the total to 80 rounds of ammunition which have been seized in a week since the State of Emergency has been imposed on the parish of St James.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure, but as the operation continued in the community a total of five persons were taken into custody.  The individuals were transported to the Freeport lockup where they will be processed to see if they are involved in any form of criminal activities.
