Negril, Westmoreland – The Westmoreland police have arrested five individuals following the discovery of an illegal firearm inside a house in Negril on Thursday. The arrests were made during a police operation in the Whitehall area around 12:30 p.m.
According to reports, police officers conducted a search of a two-room board dwelling, where they uncovered a .380 Ruger 9mm pistol, along with three magazines and 21 rounds of ammunition. The five occupants of the house were immediately taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
The Savanna-la-Mar Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) is currently leading the investigation into the matter. Authorities have yet to release the identities of the suspects or provide additional details regarding the operation.
The police have reiterated their commitment to combating illegal firearms and urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement in the fight against crime.
