Father and Son Remanded: A 57-year-old man and his 21-year-old son, who appeared before the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday to answer to murder charges, were remanded until Thursday.
Both accused, Wilford Cooke and his son Lavaughn, face charges related to the murder of 36-year-old female security guard Nastacia Smith on March 17.
According to reports, around 3:30 pm, Smith and other family members were at home when two armed men entered the yard and opened fire, hitting Smith and another female relative.
Upon police arrival, both victims were rushed to the hospital, where Smith was pronounced dead, and the other female was treated and admitted.
During their court appearance on Wednesday, their attorney Henry McCurdy, during a bail hearing, stated that his clients were innocent. However, Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton requested the presence of the arresting officer in court based on the submitted report.
