Andrew Wiley, the Tallahassee father accused of killing his 12-year-old daughter, Lori Paige, has died in custody before facing trial.
According to reports from WLBT, Wiley passed away at the Leon County Detention Facility from a pulmonary embolism, a condition caused by a blood clot blocking blood flow in the lungs. His death occurred just two months after he was charged with second-degree murder in connection to Lori’s death.
Authorities say Wiley killed Lori on June 1, 2023, and left her body in a wooded area in Georgia the next day. He reported her missing on June 3, telling police she had left with her backpack while he was at work.
For months, investigators tracked leads across several states. By early 2024, inconsistencies in Wiley’s account led to a deeper investigation. A search of his home and phone revealed disturbing internet searches, including queries about remote locations with bodies of water in Georgia and Alabama.
State Attorney Jack Campbell revealed evidence suggesting Lori may have been sexually assaulted and possibly pregnant, hinting at a possible motive. Prosecutors believed the killing could have been premeditated or a crime of passion during a confrontation.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, Campbell said the death penalty was unlikely due to the absence of conclusive proof that the murder was planned in advance.
Wiley maintained his innocence until his death. While his passing has sparked questions about possible foul play, officials insist there is no evidence suggesting anything other than natural causes.
The case has left a community in shock and mourning, with many questions left unanswered — particularly those about Lori’s final moments and the full truth of what led to her tragic death.
