KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police have listed a man as wanted following the shooting of a woman, said to be his child’s mother, at Buckas Scheme on Third Street in Trench Town, Kingston 12, on Wednesday evening.
The suspect, identified as Mark Anthony Roberts, otherwise called ‘Markie,’ has been ordered to turn himself in at the Denham Town Police Station by 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Reports indicate that around 7:40 p.m., a heated argument broke out between Roberts and the 36-year-old woman, who is a vendor. During the confrontation, Roberts allegedly pulled a firearm from his waistband and opened fire, hitting the woman in her left hand and chest. She attempted to flee but was pursued and later collapsed.
The suspect reportedly escaped on foot, while the injured woman was rushed to the hospital, where she remains admitted.
Investigators have since determined that the argument stemmed from the woman’s current relationship with another man. Further inquiries have also revealed that Roberts is affiliated with the Buchas Gang, which operates within the community.
In response, police have increased surveillance in the area, as they fear the possibility of reprisals related to the incident.
Authorities are urging Roberts to surrender peacefully and are appealing to anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Denham Town Police, Crime Stop, or the nearest police station.
