February 14, 2025 — The reggae and dancehall community is mourning the loss of Determine, the renowned singer whose real name was Rohan Bennett. The beloved artist, best known for his uplifting and inspirational music, passed away on Thursday at the age of 52 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Determine gained prominence for his powerful messages of resilience and positivity, cementing his place in reggae history with tracks that blended traditional Nyabinghi rhythms with dancehall energy. One of his most iconic collaborations was “Kette Drum,” recorded with dancehall legend Beenie Man, which remains a staple in reggae culture.
The news of his passing was confirmed by artist manager Paula Francis, who is also the mother of three of his children. Struggling to hold back tears, Francis stated, “I cannot talk now, but it’s true, he died of cancer.”
Fans and fellow musicians have taken to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to the late artist.
