Employee Engagement Conference October 17-19

Jamaica News: The Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) is aiming to attract 500 persons to the 2019 Employee Engagement Conference from October 17 to 19.

The event will be held at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston, under the theme ‘Employee Experience 3D – Design. Develop. Deliver’.

Speaking at a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) ‘Think Tank’ on Tuesday, September 3, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the JBDC, Valerie Veira, said the third annual conference’s theme reflects the organisation’s aim of employers using practical tools to change their internal culture.

“As the business environment becomes more competitive and there are challenges, the onus is on enterprises to continuously review the kinds of systems within their establishments and how they can bring the moderately engaged into the vision, working along with you,” she added.

According to Miss Veira, the engagement of employees or lack thereof significantly impacts the success of companies.

“The conference speaks to engagement, whether you have five or 100 persons in the organisation. If the staff experience is bad, the results will be bad and this will result in poor customer relations, so we will be seeking to enrich your clients and your customers’ relationship,” she explained.

The CEO noted that the strategies that will be emphasised at the conference will aim to transform the “moderately engaged” members of the workforce into “actively engaged”.

“We focus on that group and share information that can assist our executives and human resource managers to start thinking of their operations and how they can change what they are doing to move the process forward,” she said.

According to Assistant Manager in Project Management and Research Development at the JBDC, Sasha McCalla, attendees of the conference will access actionable insights into developing an employee experience.

“We want to emphasise that the employee experience is not just about taking your employee to lunch or dinner, but it is the experience that you are creating, so we are going to be looking at the culture, what does the physical space look like, and what are the tools that your employee are working with,” she explained.

The two-day conference will have more than 30 speakers, including three keynote speakers – Christine Comaford, Chris Gillet and Alan Stein Jr. The workshops will focus on various topics, including employee engagement policy creation, health and wellness, and brain-based formula for emotional engagement.

Persons interested in attending the conference can visit the JBDC website at www.jbdc.net and complete the application to be considered.
