St Catherine, Jamaica – The St Catherine North Traffic Department has launched a probe into a deadly crash along the Spanish Town Bypass late Thursday night, which claimed the life of a motorist and left a female bystander seriously injured.
The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Wakeham Hyman, a resident of Luke Road, Green Acres, St Catherine.
Reports are that about 11:50 p.m., Hyman was driving his Honda Civic motor car towards Kingston when he attempted to make a U-turn. During the maneuver, his vehicle was hit from behind by a Toyota Mark X motor car travelling in the same direction.
The impact caused both vehicles to skid violently across the roadway, striking and severely injuring a female bystander who was standing nearby.
Hyman was thrown from his vehicle and suffered massive head injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The injured woman was also taken to hospital, where she remains in serious condition.
Police say the driver of the Toyota Mark X has since been warned for prosecution, as investigations into the fatal crash continue.
