ST MARY, Jamaica — A tragic motor vehicle accident early Easter Monday morning in Castleton, St Mary has claimed the life of a doctor and left three others hospitalised.
According to police reports, four doctors — three of whom are from Nigeria — were travelling from Kingston to St Mary when the driver, a female doctor attached to the Annotto Bay Hospital, reportedly lost control of the vehicle along a section of the Castleton main road. The vehicle subsequently plunged over a precipice.
All four individuals sustained injuries and were taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital. One doctor later succumbed to his injuries, while the others remain in stable condition. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
The surviving doctors are said to be attached to the Obstetrics, General Surgery, and Internal Medicine departments, with service periods ranging from three to six months. The doctor who died had reportedly joined the Internal Medicine Department in March of this year.
Senior Medical Officer at the Annotto Bay Hospital, Dr Glenton Strachan, confirmed that grief counselling has commenced for staff as they mourn the loss of their colleague.
