Disbarred attorney Jennifer Messado is recovering after surviving a car crash in the Corporate Area on Tuesday. The incident occurred when Messado’s vehicle rear-ended another car, reportedly due to brake failure. Following the crash, Messado was briefly hospitalized but has since been discharged and is now recuperating at home.
“Jennifer came back from the hospital, she is fine. She was saved by her seatbelt and the airbags that deployed. What happened is that her brakes failed her, and she ran into the back of the vehicle,” Messado’s attorney, Christopher Townsend, confirmed in a statement.
Messado, who has been disbarred, is currently facing legal challenges, including an upcoming trial on December 5. The case involves allegations that she defrauded dancehall artist Mavado of over $30 million in a 2018 real estate deal. Townsend provided an update on the case, noting that the prosecution has not pursued an application for Mavado to testify from abroad, potentially changing the dynamics of the trial.
Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, had previously sought to give testimony via video link from the United States. However, his attorney, Oswest Senior Smith, had downplayed the necessity of his testimony, stating that other witnesses were more crucial to the case.
The trial is expected to proceed without Brooks’ direct involvement, with significant attention on witnesses who handled the financial transactions on his behalf.
Messado, who has faced multiple fraud-related charges in recent years, now prepares to recover from her injuries while also preparing for her legal battle.
