Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Digital Ninja is Dead: The music fraternity was plunged into mourning following the sudden passing of one of the city’s most decorated selector, 51-yr-old Everton Nicholson, more popularly known as Digital Ninja.
Ninja passed away at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. He got his fame from in the 90’s, while selecting on a sound system called Digitec, based at Walpole Lane in Montego Bay. The sound along with Ninja gained popularity at the weekly Dead End bar Thursday night Carnival, which saw over 5,000 persons attending.
Ninja would play hit song after hit song, with several people erupting in “a joyful noise” with the top class selection Ninja would play. He was also a top footballer in the St James division one league, winning several matches for the Railway Gardens team.
During the 90’s he held the distinction for the player with the most Red Cards, as he would always protest against the referee’s decision, which always resulted in angering the referee.
In the latter part of his career, he could be seen at the UDC football field watching matches and reflecting on the good old days of football in the parish.
