The United States Coast Guard suspended its search Sunday for six people aboard a missing air ambulance after debris was found off Nantucket, Massachusetts.
The Canadian-registered Gulfstream G100 disappeared over the Atlantic early Saturday, October 3, while travelling from Bermuda to Boston. Four Canadians and two Bermudian nationals were aboard.
Search crews subsequently located a debris field believed to be linked to the aircraft. Authorities notified the families of those on board as rescue efforts continued.
Air traffic control recordings indicated that the pilot reported electrical problems and declared an emergency before communication was lost.
Preliminary data from flight-tracking service FlightRadar24 showed the aircraft descending sharply from approximately 24,000 feet to about 10,000 feet.
The cause of the aircraft’s disappearance has not been established.
