Dear McKoy: Should I Tell My Teenager Daughter That My Uncle is Her Father (McKoy’s News) – I was 13 when I became pregnant with my daughter. I was 9 years old when my uncle began sexually abusing me and my mom did nothing. She always told persons that I never knew who my daughter’s father is.
My daughter recently did 11 subjects and got them all and she has been asking me about who her father is and I just want to be honest with her. I am afraid that the truth will do more bad than good and I just want to protect her. Am I a bad mom for not wanting to tell her the truth?
Dear Emotionally Broken,
Thanks for sharing your story. It’s understandable why you wouldn’t like to share with your daughter what you’ve had to deal with your whole life. On the other hand, she deserves to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. This is your decision at the end of the day, but it is important that you put yourself in your daughter’s shoes. If you decide to let her know who her father is, you can both attend counseling for emotional support.
