The police St. James is reporting that the hit and run driver of the vehicle which claimed the life of a 2-year-old, infant and, seriously injured her 10-year-old sister, along Howard Cooke Boulevard in Montego Bay, St James, on Tuesday night, April 23, have turned himself over to the police.
Investigators reported that the 21-year-old accused who resides in Sunny Hill in St Thomas and attends the College of Agriculture, Science and Education ( CASE) was taken to the Morant Bay police station by his parents on Wednesday night about 10:00 p.m.
The accused driver was arrested for the death of 2-year-old child Sasha Gaye Dennis, otherwise called ” Munchie”, of Wooster district in Johns Hall, St James, and the injuring of her 10-year-old sister Hanesea ” Shadea” Palmer.
Reports are that about 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, 34-year-old, Diana Whitely and her four children were on their way back from the beach which is located along the Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, in the tourist hip strip of Montego Bay.
On reaching the east bound lane that separates in the vicinity of Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, Queens Drive and Howard Cooke Boulevard, a motorist stop to allow them to cross the street, when the accused who was driving a white 2009 Nissan Note motor car, overtook the parked car and knock down10-year-old Hanesea, who at the time was carrying her 2-year-old sister, Sasha Gaye in her arms.
He then sped away while the vehicle dragged the child’s body a distance away into the directions of Queen Street before she was released unto the roadway.
Both siblings sustained injuries to their upper bodies and were transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where Sasha Gaye was pronounced dead, and Hanesea treated and admitted in serious condition.
