Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine – A pre-dawn operation on Terminal Road in Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine, resulted in the fatal shooting of a man known in the community as “Daddy 1,” following an alleged confrontation with a joint police-military team.
The incident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m., also led to the reported seizure of a firearm from the deceased, according to police sources.
Authorities stated that the security forces were conducting a targeted operation focused on illegal drugs and firearms. During the operation, several houses along Terminal Road were searched.
Police reported that upon entering one of the premises, “Daddy 1,” who was inside, allegedly pointed a firearm at members of the team. In response, the security forces engaged the individual, fatally wounding him.
A Browning nine-millimetre pistol, equipped with a magazine containing seven rounds of ammunition, was reportedly recovered from the scene.
The injured man was transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite medical efforts.
Following the fatal shooting, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) — the body tasked with probing actions by security forces and state agents — has launched a formal investigation, in keeping with standard protocol for police-related shootings.
Further official confirmation regarding the identity of the deceased is still pending. The investigation remains ongoing, with additional information expected as INDECOM continues its inquiry.
