Court Set to Decide if Constable Faces Murder Charge

Kingston – Justice Leighton Pusey is set to rule today on whether Constable Noel Maitland has a case to answer in the murder of his girlfriend, Donna-Lee Donaldson, and the charge of preventing the lawful burial of her body.

Donaldson, 24, disappeared in July 2022. Maitland said she left his Chelsea Manor apartment after an argument over a photo of the mother of his child.

During the trial, the Crown presented evidence including bloodstains in Maitland’s New Kingston apartment matching Donaldson’s DNA and testimony about a sofa washed with what appeared to be blood. Family members recounted her last known sightings, while the defence suggested she may have left the island, been trafficked, or abducted, and questioned the DNA evidence.

The prosecution is led by Director of Public Prosecutions Claudette Thompson. Maitland is represented by King’s Counsel Larry Smith and a legal team.
