ST JAMES, Jamaica — Residents of Greenwood, St James, are in shock following a brutal double murder on Thursday night that claimed the lives of a Canadian man and his wife in what police suspect was a targeted home invasion.
The deceased have been identified as 61-year-old Clayton Cooke of Casci Avenue in Toronto, Canada, and 37-year-old Gem Cooke, a cashier of Tortuga Drive in Greenwood.
According to police reports, the attack occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. when unknown assailants stormed the couple’s residence on Tortuga Drive and opened fire. The attackers then fled the scene in a waiting motor vehicle.
Residents, alarmed by the sound of gunfire, alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, officers discovered Clayton Cooke slumped against a gate while Gem Cooke lay face down. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The St James Criminal Investigation Branch is leading the probe into the incident, though no motive has been established as yet. Law enforcement officials are appealing to anyone with information to come forward as they work to track down the perpetrators.
