A correctional officer has been charged after allegedly attempting to bring prohibited items into the St Catherine Adult Correctional Centre.
Sean Cowan appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Wednesday, where he faces allegations of introducing contraband, including ganja, cigarettes, wrapping paper, and a lighter.
The court heard from Staff Officer Michael Brown, who testified that the items were discovered during a routine security check in October 2024. Brown stated that a metal detector alerted him while scanning Cowan at the prison gate, prompting a search.
Cowan reportedly complied and handed over the items, which were then reported to senior officers and the police. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
His bail was extended until May 13, when the case is set to continue.
