A 33-year-old truck driver from Mount Zion in Rock River, Clarendon, has been charged after police intercepted his vehicle in Morant Bay, St Thomas, on Wednesday night.
The Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), supported by the St Thomas police, stopped the truck on Church Street around 10:33 p.m. A search of the vehicle uncovered over 150 parcels of compressed ganja, totaling more than 1,500 pounds, along with over $180,000 in cash. The estimated street value of the ganja is approximately $4.7 million.
The driver, Fabian Watson, now faces multiple charges under the Dangerous Drugs Act, including possession, dealing, trafficking, taking steps preparatory to export ganja, possession of criminal property, and conspiracy. Police say these charges are part of ongoing operations to dismantle drug trafficking networks and their financial operations.
Acting Senior Superintendent Patrae Rowe highlighted the significance of these interventions in fighting broader criminal activity associated with drug trafficking. Authorities continue to urge the public to report illegal firearms and narcotics through FNID, the National Intelligence Bureau, Crime Stop, the police emergency number, or the nearest police station.
