Trelawny, Jamaica – Tragedy struck along the North Coast Highway in Trelawny on Sunday evening, when a Canadian visitor lost her life in a motor vehicle accident.
The unidentified woman was traveling with her family from Montego Bay, St. James, to St. Ann when the Toyota RAV4, driven by her husband, collided with an oncoming truck near Falmouth.
She succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the other three occupants, including her husband, sustained injuries and were rushed to Falmouth Hospital for treatment.
Reports indicate that the family had just arrived in Jamaica at Sangster International Airport only hours earlier. The crash occurred a mere 30 minutes into their journey, cutting short what was meant to be a tropical getaway.
The Trelawny police are investigating the incident as they work to determine the cause of the crash. Authorities are also in the process of notifying the woman’s relatives in Canada.
Motorists are being reminded to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially along high-speed corridors like the North Coast Highway, where accidents have been frequent.
