Kingston, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) : A 20-year-old Canadian national from Brampton, Ontario was arrested on Sunday night at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston after he was reportedly found with two pounds of vegetable matter resembling ganja.
Reports reaching Mckoy’s News are that the young man was preparing to board a departing flight when airport security personnel conducted a routine check of his luggage. During the search, the suspected ganja was discovered hidden in his suitcase.
He was immediately taken into custody and handed over to the Narcotics Division for questioning.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and charges are expected to be laid pending further testing of the substance.
This latest arrest comes just months after a major drug bust at the same airport in March, where a British couple was nabbed by members of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine valued at J$92.7 million.
The authorities continue to urge travelers to comply with Jamaica’s strict anti-narcotics laws, warning that those caught attempting to smuggle drugs will face the full force of the law.
