Swift actions by the Mt. Salem police resulted in the recovery of a firearm stolen from a licensed firearm holder in Mount Salem, St. James, on Saturday.
The police also reported that they are looking for three men from the Piggott Street area in Mount Salem in connection with the incident.
Reports indicate that around 1:55 p.m., a licensed firearm holder who operates a removal service was hired by a family to move them from Piggott Street to another community.
The businessman drove his removal truck to the community and was in the process of loading furniture into the truck when he was approached by three men, one of whom held a knife to his neck. They proceeded to rob him of his waist bag and his licensed black-handled chrome Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol, fitted with a magazine containing eighteen 9mm cartridges.
The men then fled the scene and escaped into the community. The businessman reported the incident to a team of JDF soldiers on duty in the Zone of Special Operation area.
A joint police/military team acted on intelligence and carried out a search in a banana field in the community, where the stolen weapon and the businessman’s waist bag were recovered.
