A bus driver was tragically shot and killed on the grounds of Holmwood Technical High School in northeast Manchester on Friday morning. The victim has been identified as Rohan Gentles, otherwise known as ‘Scrooge,’ a resident of Chudleigh district.
According to preliminary reports from law enforcement, the shooting occurred around 8:10 a.m. as Gentles was preparing to load the institution’s coaster bus. He was set to transport the school’s under-16 and under-14 football teams to a scheduled match in Spalding. The driver was reportedly ambushed by a lone gunman, who fled the scene shortly after the attack.
The incident has left the school community in shock, prompting the immediate dismissal of classes for the day. Students and staff were sent home, and the school was placed under a heightened security presence as investigations unfolded.
This latest tragedy brings the number of homicides in Manchester to 45 for the year, marking an increase over the 39 murders recorded during the same period last year.
Local authorities are continuing their efforts to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have appealed for any witnesses or information that could help with their inquiries.
