Kingston, Jamaica (McKoy’s News)- Mother Used Hot Fork To Burn Four-Year-Old Son: A woman who appeared in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court yesterday, was charged with cruelty to a minor and was sent to have a psychiatric evaluation done after she used a hot fork to burn her 4-yr-old son twice in his back.
William Hines, the lawyer representing Nickeisha Beckford (mother of the child), told the court that she was trying to discipline her son who had just hurt another child. “She was trying to scold the child,” Hines said. “Her intention was never to harm the child. The father blew it up and cause it to be what it is now.”
However, the presiding judge, Chester Crooks refuted Hines’ argument, stating that the child’s misbehaviour did not mean that she should scold him in a cruel manner. The lawyer then stated that Ms Beckford was under a lot of stress at the time of the incident. “I understand that she was at the Kingston Public Hospital for two weeks,” Hines told the court.
Beckford was remanded in custody. She is to return to court on November 24.
