A 17-year-old resident of Boscobel, St Mary, has been formally charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 59-year-old businessman Garfield Singh.
The teenager faces charges of conspiracy to rob and possession of criminal property. He is now among four individuals accused in the matter, joining Police Constables Qwaine Blake and Daz Hayne, as well as Tyrone Dacosta. The three men were charged on Thursday, February 19. A court date is currently being arranged.
Investigators from the Port Maria police division reported that about 3:30 a.m. last Monday, residents heard loud banging noises followed by explosions sounding like gunfire at Singh’s home in Boscobel. The police were alerted and responded to the location.
Upon arrival, Singh was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Following extensive investigations, a file was compiled and submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for guidance. Law enforcement officials say the 17-year-old was subsequently charged after providing a caution statement detailing his alleged role in the crime.
The case remains before the court as the legal process moves forward.
