KINGSTON, Jamaica — “Blood like rice grain!”
That was the chilling description from a key witness in the high-profile murder trial of Constable Noel Maitland, who stands accused of killing his girlfriend, social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson, whose body has still not been found.
The witness — testifying via video link from overseas — recounted a disturbing scene at a Lyndhurst Road car wash on July 13, 2022, where she claims a blood-soaked settee belonging to Maitland was brought for cleaning.
She described a “brown-skinned, short, thick-bodied man” — believed to be Maitland — driving in around 9:00 a.m., then returning around 1:00 p.m. with two men and a blue-and-white truck carrying a three-piece brown settee.
While cleaning the right corner of the furniture, she said:
“It red and it smelled raw… Jesus, this yah one yah must dead or him bleed out.”
The court fell silent as she described “blood like rice grain” seeping from the settee, a strong odor, and flies swarming the area.
She also said one of the men brought vinegar to try and mask the smell.
The defence objected to the witness’s comments, calling them speculative, but Justice Leighton Pusey allowed the testimony, stating it could be addressed during cross-examination.
The settee, she said, remained on the premises until the next day, July 14, still wet and surrounded by flies — then vanished.
Police later visited the location, took photos, and reviewed CCTV footage.
During the harrowing testimony, Donna-Lee’s mother broke down in tears and had to leave the courtroom.
Maitland, a police constable and music producer, is charged with murder and preventing the lawful burial of a body.
The trial is set to continue on Tuesday, July 29.
