A popular entertainment event in Kingston turned violent on Sunday night when social media personality Jaii Frais was shot during a confrontation at the “Big Wall” soca party.
The incident, which unfolded at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre around 9:30 p.m., has since led to the arrest of a prominent music producer. Police investigations are ongoing.
Jaii Frais, whose given name is Jhadee Richards, reportedly arrived at the venue and proceeded to a restroom shortly after entering. According to early police reports, trouble began as he exited the facility, where he allegedly encountered the producer, who reportedly struck him in the face.
Authorities say Richards reported that he was then confronted by a group of approximately 15 men who began to assault him. During the altercation, one individual allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at him. Richards reportedly managed to wrestle the weapon away.
Further reports indicate that amid the chaos, the music producer allegedly pulled a firearm and opened fire in Richards’ direction. In response, Richards—now armed with the weapon he had taken—reportedly discharged shots while attempting to escape the attack.
He later made his way to nearby police officers, where he handed over the firearm and sought assistance. It was at that point he realized he had been shot after experiencing a burning sensation in his lower back.
Richards was transported to a hospital in the Corporate Area, where he remains under medical care and police guard.
The violence also left two other men injured. One, believed to be associated with DJ ‘450’s entourage, underwent surgery, while another, said to be a bystander, is receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.
Police confirmed that the music producer implicated in the shooting has been taken into custody as investigations continue.
