FLORIDA – Ryan Routh was sentenced to life in prison for trying to shoot former President Donald Trump at a Florida golf course in September 2024.
Routh had lain in wait with a rifle near Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach but was stopped by a Secret Service agent. He later attempted to stab himself in court after being found guilty on five federal charges, including attempted assassination.
Prosecutors had pushed for a life sentence, citing Routh’s planning and lack of remorse. The judge agreed, rejecting the defense’s plea for a lighter term.
