Reggae firebrand Anthony B is set to make his much-anticipated return to the stage this Friday at the ‘Reggae on the River’ show in California. This performance marks his comeback after undergoing surgery to address a life-threatening medical condition that sidelined him from performing at Reggae Sumfest last month.
The medical condition, a punctured intestine, abruptly halted his plans for Reggae Sumfest. During rehearsals with his band at Downsound Records, Anthony B experienced severe abdominal pain. Recounting the ordeal on Instagram, he described the pain as unbearable and revealed that an emergency room visit led to the discovery of the punctured intestine, necessitating immediate surgery.
The doctors at the University Hospital of the West Indies conducted the life-saving procedure, and Anthony B was discharged on July 30. He expressed profound gratitude to the medical staff, acknowledging their competence and dedication during the challenging surgical procedure. He shared that he had been unconscious for 48 hours post-surgery and only fully realized the extent of his ordeal upon regaining consciousness.
Reflecting on the experience, Anthony B emphasized the fragility of life and the importance of gratitude. He spoke about the unpredictability of life and the grace and mercy of the Creator that sustained him through his trials. His words underscored a renewed commitment to giving thanks for each moment of life.
During his recovery, Anthony B received significant support from key figures in the reggae community, including Reggae Sumfest’s Josef Bogdanovich and Cordel ‘Skatta’ Burrell, as well as his family. He said their support played a crucial role in his journey back to health and readiness to return to the stage.
Anthony B’s return to ‘Reggae on the River’ is highly anticipated, promising a performance filled with the energy and passion that has defined his career. His resilience and gratitude are sure to resonate with fans, making his comeback performance a momentous occasion.
