St Catherine, Jamaica — An American man facing overstaying charges in Jamaica has been revealed to be wanted in the United States for a shooting-related offence.
Saeed Singh, 28, appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court today, where it was disclosed that a warrant had been issued for his arrest in the U.S. A representative from the U.S. Embassy confirmed the offence.
Presiding judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller ordered that Singh be remanded until March 4 to allow for the appearance of a representative from the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA).
According to allegations, on Monday, February 24, members of the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) carried out an operation along Old Harbour Road in St Catherine. During the operation, Singh was observed washing vehicles.
Police accosted him, and further checks revealed that he had been in Jamaica for over 12 months, exceeding the period allowed for his stay. He was subsequently arrested and charged with overstaying.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
