Jamaica News: Service providers in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency industry are among the persons invited to the upcoming Alternative Energy Expo being held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on June 15 and 16.

The event will serve to educate the providers on government procurement processes as well as to showcase various energy solutions.

“The Government has projects coming up, so we are going to be having a training session where we talk to them about how to apply for Government business, and how to package the bid,” Manager, Corporate Affairs and Communication, at the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ), Camille Taylor, told JIS News.

“We have 100 projects to implement over the next four to five years, so we will be procuring a lot of goods and services; therefore, we want to reach out to service providers,” she said.

Miss Taylor said the public is invited to the event, which is free of cost, noting that it will bring together the various participants in the energy industry, including providers of energy efficiency goods and services for householders and business operators; providers of alternative energy solutions; members of academia as well as government entities.

She noted that the PCJ’s booth will be staffed by their energy engineers and experts, who will be giving tips and advice to consumers.

“Energy right now is absorbing a lot of our disposable income, and for businesses it is absorbing a lot of their operating income, so everyone is looking to do things at a more affordable rate, without compromising their quality of life or quality of experience,” Miss Taylor said.

She added that attendees at the expo might be able to find some energy solutions that will give them more control over their energy spend, and they will be able to get advice as to what they can do right now to change behaviour to become more energy efficient.

In the meantime, Miss Taylor said that students are also being encouraged to attend, especially those interested in the energy industry.

Exhibitors at the expo will include financial institutions; suppliers of alternative energy and energy efficient goods and services; the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology (MSET) and Wigton Wind Farm.

The PCJ is the title sponsor for the expo, which is in its sixth year.
