Alleged Gunman Shot and Injured in St Andrew During Shootout with Police

Jamaica Crime News, St Andrew: A man who reportedly challenged members of a police patrol in a shootout, was shot and injured, and an illegal firearm was taken from him in the Kingston Eastern area of St Andrew on Monday afternoon of June 25th.

The wounded gunman is presently in serious condition at hospital and his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

The Bulls Bay Police have reported that on Monday afternoon, a team of officers went to a section of the area in search of gunmen.  On reaching a particular location, they saw the accused man who brandished a handgun and opened fire at the police.

The police took evasive actions and returned the fire, during what time, the man was shot and wounded.  A  Beretta 9 mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing sixteen live rounds was taken from him.

The man was transported to hospital where he was treated and admitted. He is presently under police guard.
