St Catherine, Jamaica – A police operation in the Mickleton Meadows community of Linstead ended in tragedy early Tuesday morning after lawmen fatally shot an unidentified man during what they described as a confrontation.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched a probe into the incident, which occurred around 4:24 a.m.
According to police reports, the team was conducting an operation in the area when they were allegedly challenged by a man armed with a handgun. Lawmen reportedly returned fire, injuring the suspect.
He was taken to the Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During the operation, the police reportedly seized a Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine containing one round of ammunition. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased.
Investigations into Tuesday’s incident remain ongoing.
