Kingston, Jamaica – A man said to be the leader of the notorious Burgher Gully Gang was fatally shot during an early morning police operation in Rollington Town, East Kingston, on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as 64-year-old Christopher Murray, otherwise called ‘Muslin’.
Reports are that around 6:00 a.m., members of the security forces were conducting an intelligence-driven operation in the Burgher Avenue area, targeting illegal weapons and gang activity.
Police say when they knocked on a door at a premises, Murray opened fire on the team. The lawmen returned fire, hitting him in the upper body.
Following the shooting, officers recovered an illegal .38 revolver from Murray. The weapon reportedly contained four live rounds and two spent casings.
Murray was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations are ongoing.
