Kingston, Jamaica – A man believed to be a senior member of a notorious West Kingston gang was fatally shot in broad daylight during a targeted attack in downtown Kingston on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Marlon Anthony Dyer, otherwise known as “Marlon Sniper.”
Reports indicate that around 11:50 a.m., Dyer was walking near the intersection of William Street and Upper West Street when he was ambushed by two masked assailants armed with handguns. He was shot multiple times in the upper body before the gunmen fled the scene on foot along William Street.
Dyer was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police investigators say Dyer was a deportee and a reputed top-tier member of the Upsetter Gang, based in the Hannah Town community. He had been under investigation for several serious crimes, including allegations of sexual assault, and was regarded as a major figure in Kingston’s criminal underworld.
The Kingston Western Police Division has since increased its presence in several communities amid fears of possible reprisals. The Police High Command says heightened security measures are now in place across West Street, Matthew’s Lane, Golden Heights, Wellington Street, Bond Street, Racecourse Lane, and Hannah Town.
Authorities are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
