Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – Arajet, the Dominican Republic’s flagship low-cost airline, made history this week with its inaugural flight to the United States, marking a major milestone in the country’s aviation industry.
Flight 2100 departed Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo and landed at Miami International Airport (MIA) with 168 passengers on board. The flight, operated on a Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft named Los Haitises, was greeted with a celebratory water salute and a warm welcome from U.S. and Dominican officials.

The launch follows the recent Open Skies Agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States, which aims to increase air connectivity and promote economic, cultural, and tourism exchanges between both nations.

“This is a historic moment for Arajet and for the entire Dominican Republic,” said Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO of Arajet. “This first flight to Miami, the capital of Latin America, is just the beginning of our commitment to offering efficient and more affordable travel for our passengers.”

The arrival ceremony at Gate E10 included the waving of Dominican and American flags from the cockpit and a symbolic jersey exchange between Arajet executives, Miami International Airport representatives, and Caroline O’Connor, President of Business Operations for the Miami Marlins.

Arajet will initially operate four weekly flights between Santo Domingo and Miami. Due to strong demand, the airline announced plans to increase the frequency to daily service this summer. In addition, it will launch a new route from Punta Cana to Miami, also with daily departures.
“We proudly welcome Arajet Airlines to MIA and thank them for making Miami-Dade County their first destination in the U.S.,” said Ralph Cutié, Director and CEO of Miami International Airport. “Their new service provides another affordable travel option for residents and brings more visitors to our vibrant community.”
Dominican Republic Consul General in Miami, Geanilda Vásquez, lauded the achievement, stating: “This flight is an achievement that reflects the growth of our aviation sector and the increasing connectivity that benefits both Dominicans and those who wish to visit our country.”
Since its inception 30 months ago, Arajet has flown over two million passengers. Its expansion into the U.S. market signals the airline’s growing regional influence and commitment to providing world-class service and affordable international travel options.
