Three alleged gunmen were killed in a reported shootout with police along the Mosquito Cove main road in Hanover Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the incident occurred around 5:35 p.m., when members of the Area One Fugitive Apprehension Team (AFAT) signaled a dark-colored Toyota Voxy to stop as part of a targeted operation.
The CCU reports that four men exited the vehicle, armed, and began firing at the police. Officers returned fire, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire along the main road. Three of the suspects were hit and later pronounced dead at the hospital, while a fourth managed to escape the scene. Police recovered two firearms from the site of the incident.
One of the deceased men has been identified as Clive Lawson, also known as “Greedy,” a resident of Mount Salem, Saint James.
Authorities say Lawson was the leader of the Katon Defence Force (KDF) gang, which operates in the Mount Salem area. He was also reportedly a suspect in a recent attack on Campbell Lane, St. James, where a man was killed and multiple homes came under gunfire.
The Area One Police have reiterated their commitment to targeting known criminals and “violence producers” in the region. Law enforcement has issued a warning to criminal elements, affirming that no effort will be spared in ensuring justice.
