LIMA, Peru – Alana Reid has continued Jamaica’s remarkable legacy in the women’s 100 meters at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships, securing the nation’s fourth consecutive gold medal in the event on Wednesday in Lima, Peru. Reid, the current world Under-20 leader, clocked an impressive 11.17 seconds to claim victory against a formidable field.
Following Reid in second place was Adaejah Hodge from the British Virgin Islands, who ran a strong race to take the silver medal. Kishawna Niles of Barbados rounded out the podium, finishing third in a highly competitive final.
Reid’s triumph adds her name to a distinguished list of Jamaican sprinters who have dominated the Under-20 women’s 100 meters in recent years. She follows in the footsteps of Briana Williams, who captured gold in Tampere, Finland in 2018, and Tina Clayton, who secured back-to-back titles in Nairobi, Kenya in 2021 and Cali, Colombia in 2022.
This victory cements Jamaica’s status as a powerhouse in global sprinting, particularly at the junior level, and continues a streak of dominance that has now spanned six years.
