Two St James women charged over $300,000 bank account theft

Two women from St James have been charged following an investigation into the alleged theft of approximately $300,000 from a man’s bank account.

Charged are 30-year-old Carlisha Dixon and 43-year-old Tania Simms, both residents of Copperwood, St James.

The women face charges of unauthorised access to computer data, conspiracy to defraud, possession of identity information, unlawfully making data available for the commission of an offence, larceny from the dwelling, and simple larceny on 11 counts.

According to the Cambridge police, the complainant sought assistance from Simms in March to withdraw money from his bank account at an ATM.

However, he was later notified that several withdrawals had been made from the account over a number of days, amounting to approximately $300,000.

The matter was reported to the police, and an investigation was launched.

Police said their investigations subsequently revealed that Simms had allegedly handed the complainant’s bank card to Dixon, who then used it to withdraw funds from the account.

Both women were arrested and taken into custody. They were later charged after participating in question-and-answer sessions with investigators.

Their court date is to be finalised.
