St Catherine, Jamaica: A 78-year-old man from St Catherine has been arrested and charged with four counts of grievous sexual assault in connection with the alleged abuse of an eight-year-old girl. The elderly man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken into custody on Saturday following a police investigation.
According to reports, the accused was a trusted friend of the victim’s family and allegedly committed the heinous acts during visits to the child’s home. The young girl later confided in a relative, detailing the traumatic experiences, which prompted the family to contact the authorities.
The police swiftly launched an investigation, gathering evidence that led to the arrest and formal charging of the suspect.
Law enforcement officials are now in the process of finalizing a court date for the accused to make his initial appearance.
