6-year-old Drowns After being Swept Away by Flood Waters

Jamaica News, Clarendon: A 6-year-old Dajahne Pennant of Oliver Gardens in May Pen, Clarendon, lost his life by drowning after he was swept away by flood waters while coming from school on Monday, October 1.

Reports by the May Pen police are that about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Dajahne and his 13-year-old sister were returning home from school in heavy rainfall.

On reaching a section of the area which was flooded, both children attempted to cross a flooded channel and were swept away.

The 13-year-old girl managed to drag herself from the water and attempted to do same for her sibling, but he got swept away.

An alarm was raised and residents in the community rushed to the location in a bid to save the 6-year-old.

Sometime later, his body was fished from the flood waters.  He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
