Jamaica News, St James: A 6-month-old baby girl who along with her mother had just arrived in the island, succumbed to injuries she received in a freak accident which occurred along a section of the King’s Gate main road in Anchovy, St James, on Wednesday, July 4.
The police have identified the dead 6-month-old infant as, Aaliyah Lowan, who resides in Canada with her mother. A male driver of the vehicle and the child’s mother also received injuries and were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were treated.
Reports by the police are that, the male driver who resides in Kipping District in Darliston, Westmoreland had just picked up the female and her six-month-old daughter at the Sangster’s International Airport in Montego Bay. The visitors, two female and the child, had just arrived on the island from Canada to attend a funeral service which was to be held in Westmoreland over the next few days.
Shortly after 2:00 p.m., the visitors and the driver were travelling back to Westmoreland from the airport in a white Toyota Corolla motor car. On reaching a section of the King’s Gate main road in Anchovy, the vehicle picked up a skid and the driver lost control resulting in the car running off the roadway and crashing in a ditch.
The vehicle overturned on the side and got wedged between the walls of a concrete water channel alongside the roadway. Aaliyah was reportedly thrown from the vehicle and sustained head injuries. Also, the other occupants of the vehicle received injuries and were assisted to the Cornwall Regional Hospital by other passing motorists.
Several hours later, the baby girl succumbed to her injuries at hospital. The mother and driver are said to have now been released after being treated and admitted.
