St. Andrew, Jamaica (McKoy’s News)- 55-Year-Old Teacher Freed Of Indecent Assault Charge Against 11-Year-Old Student: History teacher at the Wolmer’s Girl School, 55-yr-old Paul Thomas, who appeared before the St. Andrew Parish Court yesterday, was freed of the charge of indecent assault, allegedly against an 11-yr-old girl.
According to prosecutors at the trial, the child was inappropriately touched by Mr. Thomas when she visited his home in St. Andrew on January 11, 2015. After the matter was reported to the police and following investigations, the teacher was arrested and charged. At the hearing, Mr. Thomas emphatically denied the allegations.
Mr. Thomas, who is also a Netball Coach, told the court that he was showing the child various netball moves and at no time did he touch her.
His attorney, Vincent Wellesley in his closing arguments, ravaged the credibility of the Crown’s case and persuaded the Parish Judge, Maxine Ellis to dismiss the case. Judge Ellis, after careful consideration to the evidence provided, agreed with Mr. Wellesley’s submissions and ordered the release of Mr. Thomas.
