ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Six teenage boys, accused of sexually assaulting a schoolgirl in an incident captured on video and widely circulated on social media, were each granted bail in the sum of $400,000 during a hearing in the St Catherine Family Court on Monday.
The boys are charged with rape, forcible abduction, knowing and producing child pornography and distributing child pornography following allegations that the teen girl was lured into a premises in Portmore, St Catherine, where she was attacked by the group.
The video of the incident, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage and was reported to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
The accused boys were apprehended by police and subsequently charged after being positively identified during an identification parade.
While on bail, the teens are subject to conditions aimed at protecting the complainant and ensuring compliance with legal procedures. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to gather evidence related to the case.
